Case Study - Pennine Housing 2000

Background

Championing Diversity was a West Yorkshire wide programme offered to employers to help them develop their management of diversity. This included an assessment of the company’s progress to date and extensive help over 18 months to move them in the direction they wanted to be in the future.

The Organisation

Shaping the companies into ‘Champions of Diversity’ in their industry, the
programme worked with George Paterson, Director of Corporate Services,
Pennine Housing 2000 to develop their approach to diversity.

Pennine Housing 2000 is Calderdale's largest locally based registered social landlord, owning and managing over 11500 properties and homes across Calderdale. In addition, Pennine provides a range of services that gives added value to tenants such as in-house repairs, grounds maintenance etc…

Impact

“The Diversity Driver was very useful as it gave us an opportunity to reflect on our priorities and offered some external challenge.

What did we do?

• Drafted up a Single Equality Scheme and used the outcomes from the driver as part of that scheme-including the areas for strengths and weakness.

• We now have an Equalities Steering Group across all of our organisation- previously we had two separate groups (one in
Pennine Housing 2000 and one in Green Vale Homes).

What did we learn?

  • The work with Fair Play Partnership has played a part in bringing this
    together.

  • Working with people who bring a breadth of knowledge about equality is
inspirational and helps to focus work.
